Rachael Ray Biography- Early Career
The Rachael Ray Biography is the story of an ambitious, talented individual who catapulted her cooking skills into an empire which includes the Rachael Ray TV Show, the Rachael Ray magazine and cookbooks that emphasize her 30 minute meals.

Rachael Ray was born August 25,1968 in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and was named Rachael Domenica Ray. She is also known to her fans as Rachel Ray. Rachael  Ray has Sicilian-American roots from her mother's side of the family and French-American roots from her father's side of the family.  Her family was involved in the restaurant business in Massachusetts and New York.  She has been quoted as saying, "I was surrounded by all different styles of cooking and worked in the food service industry in just about every capacity you can imagine."

When Rachael Ray was in her early twenties she moved to New York City where her first job was at the candy counter at Macy's.   Eventually, she began to manage the Fresh Food Department.  While working there for two years Rachael Ray gained knowledge of foods

After Rachael Ray left Macy's she helped open the prominent New York market place, Agata and Valentia.  At Agata and Valentia Rachael Ray was the store manager and buyer.  She decided this was not what she wanted on a long-term basis, so she moved back to upstate New York.  Here Rachael Ray managed Mr. Brown's Pub and restaurants at the famous Sagamore Resort on Lake George.  After her stint at the Sagamore, she became a food buyer for Cowan and Lobel, a large gourmet market in Albany.  Rachael Ray eventually became their chef.

Rachael Ray credits the concept of 30 Minute Meals to an experience at Cowan and Lobel.  To increase sales during the holiday season she began teaching a series of Rachael Ray recipes called "30 Minute Mediterranean Meals."  At Cowan and Lobel, Rachel Ray met people who were reluctant to cook, thus the concept of teaching a cooking course showing people how to make meals in thirty minutes or less  continued.

The Rachael Ray 30 Minute Meals cooking lessons flourished and the CBS TV station, WRGB, in Albany-Schenectady asked Rachael Ray to do a weekly 30 Minute Meals segment during their evening news.  During the first year of this phenomenal success she was nominated for two regional Emmys.  A  cookbook of Rachael Ray recipes accompanied the highly popular series of cooking lessons and sold 10,000 copies locally.  Rachael Ray had an appearance on public radio and the publication of her cookbook, Rachael Ray 30 Minute Meals in 1999. Schenectady-based grocery chain, Price Chopper, had Rachel Ray appear in some of their commercials.  All of the cookbooks with Rachael Ray recipes can be purchased at the Price Chopper stores.
